See You in Heck
Concepting and production design for an approachable Hellscape.
Goal & Strategy
Pop surrealism at its most horrible and adorable.
Goal
Lead participants into hell without putting them through it.
Strategy
Overlay infernal themes with innocent aesthetics.
The Project
See You in Heck was a 3-day immersive hotel party for ~1200 people in which different hotel rooms were turned into interactive art installations. This edition, the last in a trilogy, took place inside the lair of the series’ villain—a space that is an extension of himself: sinister intentions beneath a thin veneer of innocence. I was responsible for the initial concept and aesthetic for the production.
My deliverable was the style guide. It explained the theme, set the palette and typeface, defined the visual motifs shown below, and described the soundscape, so that everyone building a room or playing a part was working from the same premise.
Inspiration
Mark Ryden, Femke Hiemstra, and Leslie Ditto.
